With the successful, sold out, productions of The Marriage of Figaro in March 2010 and The Journey to Rheims in December 2010 , now behind us, please visit our links to photographs and audience responses.
We were most flattered in January 2011 to receive 'The NZ Listener' Best Opera in a Beech Forest Award for our 2010 opera productions.
I must celebrate the outstanding creative support of Michael Vinten and Sara Brodie in enabling me to create
Opera in a Days Bay Garden.
ALCINA: INFORMATION FOR OUR AUDIENCE
Gates will open at 5pm. Guests may reserve their seats with a scarf, enjoy a complimentary glass of wine, courtesy of Seresin Estate and then picnic in the garden. The opera itself starts at 6.45pm. Act 1 is 1 hour long and then there will be a 30 minute interval ( you may wish to save desert for this time, or just stretch your legs). Act 2 is 1 hour long, so 'curtain down' will be at approximately 9.30pm.
Each performance can be reached by East by West Ferry, however East by West Ferries are not providing a return service , and so guests will have to make alternative arrangements to get back into the City. For instance the No. 83 Bus or by Shuttle. There is limited parking available on Moana Road, so I would encourage guests to drop off their picnic and then to park their car on the waterfront.
We will not be selling wine , but offer you a free glass on arrival, so please feel free to bring your own wine to accompany your picnic. We will provide proper seats for the performance, but you may wish to bring a picnic chair if that is more comfortable, for your picnic. The performance will go into the evening, so please bring a warm wrap. If you would prefer to order a picnic box, please do by emailing ciao@labellaitalia.co.nz
All performances have been or are now at capacity. The Box Office can be contacted on 0275628272.
I am delighted to acknowledge and thank Mr Jeremy Commons for his consistent and generous support for our opera productions: The Marriage of Figaro, The Journey to Rheims and now Alcina.
Please look at the wonderful Chamber Orchestra which will be accompanying Alcina, fabulous players led by Donald Armstrong.
